There's a bit of definition slippage in this comment. When people assert that democracy was in danger, they don't mean that it was in danger solely from the rioters. In general (and I'm sure there are exceptions to this), they mean it was in danger because of the Trump administration. So no, this assertion does not imply that "taking control of the US is as easy as just sending a regiment over by boat."
