It's not just masks on Amazon: SSDs, flash cards have huge amounts of fakes which report the right size but have a fraction of the actually claimed memory on them.
- dboreham 5y agoPhotographic filters are notorious for being mostly fake on Amazon.
- kingcharles 5y agoDamn, thanks for the heads-up. I even wonder about things like batteries too. There are probably hundreds of categories that are ripe for fakes that are not easily detectable.
- mmh0000 5y agoThis is such a true comment. I recommend anyone who purchases flash storage devices from untrustworthy retailers to check out f3[0]. f3 - Fight Flash Fraud¶ f3 is a simple tool that tests flash cards capacity and performance to see if they live up to claimed specifications. It fills the device with pseudorandom data and then checks if it returns the same on reading. F3 stands for Fight Flash Fraud, or Fight Fake Flash. - kingcharles 5y agoI just bought one of those $20 2TB SSDs just to run f3 on it and see what the output says. Been running for 2 solid days and only at 25% complete.
