I think the author is very confused between revenue and profit.
A convenience store sitting on Any Steet, USA does around $1,600,000 in revenue per year (https://www.statista.com/statistics/308780/in-store-sales-per-convenience-store-in-the-us/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/308780/in-store-sales-pe...).
But they have a 2% profit margin, much like grocery stores, so that $1.6M really means $32k.
- kemitchell 5y agoThe choice between revenue and profit was well considered. Revenue does not account for expenses. But neither does it yield to Hollywood Accounting and the like. The purpose of the small business definition in the license is to isolate and waive through truly fledgling businesses. The assumption is very much that the licensor will also offer paid terms. So falling outside the free license isn't the end. It's just a redirection to a negotiation, with assurances of fairness and nondiscrimination.
