A lot of it is that building successful software requires product knowledge. I have never used that in my career as a dev (despite being hired for it once). Others hand that to me. I’ve also never gotten any credit whether customers like what was built. Homebrew is a great product. But in a tech firm, the product manager gets the credit for its greatness.
