I usually re-install my main OS (Manjaro atm) every two years or so, mostly to upgrade the desktop environment (this doesn't seem to work properly sometimes, even though it is a rolling release distro). I recently had to install Linux four times, because I had some trouble with my Nvidia GPU + AMD onboard graphics card setup. Windows seems to be working just fine without ever setting it up afresh. But this could also be related to the fact that I'm using it for gaming only.
