As near as I can tell there's a lot of common human medicines also used on animals and available at veterinary supply stores. Unfortunately in ivermectin's case this is being used in a propaganda campaign.
Just to put things in perspective, the same people who helped launch the propaganda campaign against hydroxychloroquine also launched one against ACE Inhibitors[0], that's been since retracted, but still gets cited and used to make policy.
A later, actual, study without fabricated data indicated that this was not only untrue, but suggests that the first fraudulent study was actually harmful. [1].
(And just as an aside... that the guys behind surgisphere have done all this _without being investigated further_ is to me one of those Sherlock Holmesian dogs-that-didn't-bark moments in this whole crisis).

Considering Omura recieved that award for research into infections caused by roundworm parasites, I don't know if that's strictly relevant in discussing it as a treatment for SARS-cov2. "Ivermectin was later tested in humans with parasitic infections and effectively killed parasite larvae (microfilaria)" https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/medicine/2015/press-release/ https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/medicine/2015/press-releas...
- cheaprentalyeti 5y agoIt's at least relevant because it has a history of being used in large volumes with humans without killing them. It's more than just "Sheep dip" which is the propaganda talking point.
- King-Aaron 5y agoThe fact that you keep using the word 'propaganda' when referencing warning people against using a non-approved veterinarian product with known severe side effects in humans says a lot about your position on the subject. As it stands there is no strong evidence that supports Ivermectin as an effective treatment for covid-19 (The big Elgazzar study was withdrawn due to it being mainly faked, and the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases found it to not be a viable treatment) and many people have been hospitalised due to self medicating with the stuff.
- kranke155 5y agoVeterinarian product ? You must be joking? There’s a human and an animal formulation for ivermectin. Its use is widespread in many countries including places in Africa where it’s cured river blindness since that’s caused by a parasite. You seem woefully misinformed yourself if you think ivermectin is a vet Product. It’s human medicine, in use for decades.
- cheaprentalyeti 5y agoWell, it's a vet product, just like Azithromycin used in animals as well as humans, and prescribed to me in the past and furosemide, used in horses as well as people, and which I am currently prescribed... The propaganda point is where you use the fact that it's used in horses to ignore that it's also prescribed to humans on a large scale.
- kranke155 5y agoPretty much.
