A lot of the original community members were also functional programming enthusiasts and their recent shift to ReScript has been intentionally alienating them in order to make the language more palatable for newbies to gain marketshare from Typescript. I understand the motivation, but some of the changes involve opinionated omissions of features in order to steer the open source code bases away from more traditional FP paradigms.
