Tbh the data they talked about sounded solid, they were clearly talking about real papers and data, and Malone didn’t seem like he was BSing (although I think “mass formation psychosis” is insane and neither Malone nor Rogan should be talking about stupid shit like that).
But on the vaccine, was there a lot of bad data there? If there was, where’s the takedown?
- cplusplusfellow 5y agoI’ve seen firsthand numerous people walking around 60 meters from anyone wearing tightly fitting N95s and face shields. I’ve seen several instances firsthand, not just on Reddit, of people putting surgical masks on their car AC vents. Pardon me if I detect a mass psychosis for an illness that almost assuredly will be troublesome, but overall less of a discomfort than draconian lockdown and so forth. And overall will (statistically) kill almost no one who contracts it. Yes, cue the “but 900,000 people”, and I’ll cue the litany of unforeseen consequences that will reduce life expectancy even further. But I’m pretty sure there is some mass psychology applied to our response to covid, and it’s generally overblown when we involve mass psychology. Just ask Charles Mackay.
- kranke155 5y agoWhat you call mass psychosis is just poor information and misinformation filtering through the population, and it’s always been commonplace. Dumb people have always existed, and the vast majority of individuals know very little about anything outside their own niche of expertise (if they have one). Under this logic you could accuse anyone of a disparate political view (ie anarchism) of mass psychosis
