There needs to be a GUI framework with some official support.

  That's not a job for stdlib. Language needs to be flexible, with a small core. Rust is already hard to learn, even the language itself is packed with features. Add the stdlib and you have plenty of confused faces who after some time fail to see the point.

      "With some official support" generally means that the library in question is in the stdlib.

        No it doesn’t. Tokio has some official support without being in the stdlib.

        The regex crate is owned by the Rust organization, but is not part of the stdlib. That said, I don't think there are any GUI crates that are as "standard" as regex is where this would make sense.

    Python has bindings to TCL/Tk in its stdlib. But citing Python is cheating, imo.

    Java has multiple GUI frameworks in its standard library.

  It’s hard to imagine what an officially supported GUI framework would be. And I’m focusing on the official. There are toolkits out there and game engines picking up steam. My guess is that for a GUI in Rust to truly shine it will have the hard task of working both in native OSes and WASM on the Web. People are working on these frameworks, but most are pretty limited at the moment depending on needs. (If folks believe it’s better than that, please share, it’s only a space I dabble in sometimes)
