> Humans are - in general - thrifty and entrepreneurial and creative; given that they don't have to put their and their families' livelihoods at risk. That risk-taking ability seems to me to be one of the deciding factors why wealthy people get wealthier: Even the most ingenious business idea might fail. For a rich family at worst a good business lesson. For a poor family at worst a catastrophe.
Well said. That's why UBI looks like a promising idea. Everyone has their basic needs taken care of, but if they want something more, they have to show at least minimum of care. Maybe there would be too many people at start who would sit all day and do nothing, but from what I've seen in many social circles, it's just that what they would like to do/create is not valued enough to make a living and/or has too much barrier to start. I would be perfectly happy to be one of those pulling humanity forward when many sit around just consuming if my hard work would not just be used by someone else just because he had more money and can dictate the rules. The problem is that in democracy, too many people in such a system will just vote for those who will increase their UBI allocation which will collapse whole system rather fast.
