How awful. I try to live: Never accept unsolicited anything. Always be the one to instigate contact. This did bite me in the butt once when my bank sent me an email with a naked link telling me to update my something-or-another that I don't use much. I completely dismissed it. But, it was valid and my something-or-another got cancelled. No big deal, but curious.
