Stand ups are just peer pressures on productivity with management oversight. I better have something to say at the standup or say X was completed or it'll look bad at me, not the effort. In theory standups are great because the team works together to solve blocking problems and doesn't worry about productivity. In practice it's just another mechanism to push productivity.
