I'm probably not the only person here with a painful family memory of a cancer death possibly related to these machines.
I had a great-uncle who died of a thyroid carcinoma in his 50s. As a child, he and his friends would inspect each others' skulls using these devices. I have a vivid memory of his elderly mother helping him walk in the last few months of his life.
As the article says: "Years or decades may elapse between radiation exposure and a related occurrence of cancer, and no follow-up studies of customers can be performed for lack of records."
