Citadel (Groupware) Code of Conduct
- imwillofficial 5y agoI expect this to cause some pushback.
- pvarangot 5y agoSo now companies are going to try to capitalize the pendulum swinging and get an egde on hiring by being un-woke? This is stupid. I just don't want my employer to police my thoughts and political beliefs unless they get in the way of me doing my job. The whole diversity thing was supposed to be about not making "different" workmates feel othered out, but the forces of polarization take it to the extreme and make good people feel othered out because of that. If I think positive discrimination is good for society I can't say that on Citadel? They don't care if I'm black or white or whatever but they do care about my ideas? I'll pass, thanks.
- manuelabeledo 5y agoIn principle, "don't be a jerk" and "respect is earned" are opposites. Either one isn't a jerk, thus respects all people by default, or believes that others aren't respect-worthy unless proven the contrary. Also, why would open source software derive in a "technolibertarian culture"? That doesn't make any sense. The concept of "copyleft" itself is about renouncing certain individual rights over software, to allow it to spread in the community.
- kkoncevicius 5y agoA friend of everyone is a friend of none. The word "respect" should signify something; respecting everyone by default makes the whole concept useless. So I tend to disagree about "don't be a jerk" and "respect is earned" being opposites.
- manuelabeledo 5y ago> So I tend to disagree about "don't be a jerk" and "respect is earned" being opposites. Would it make sense to not respect people one doesn’t know anything about, and at the same time, not be a jerk? Respect is not “earned”, as it is one of the basic pillars of society. If the author used “respect” in the sense of admiring someone’s achievements, then the statement is a truism and thus useless anyway.
- d_e_solomon 5y agoIrrelevant software chases pageclicks on HN by complaining about woke people. News at 11.
- psim1 5y agoIt's not my software. I'm trying it out and actually like it quite a lot for its capabilities. This code of conduct statement is kind of brash but you can see why when you browse their demo site at http://uncensored.citadel.org http://uncensored.citadel.org. I would guess it has been irreverent (but not irrelevant) since the beginning.
