As a new, junior engineer fresh out of college, I was mortified with the idea of being caught wrong. Now, as a senior technical advisor, I see my being wrong sometimes as part of setting an example to the junior staff -- even senior staff asks stupid questions and gets it wrong sometimes. The important thing is that we communicate, have a common understanding of the issues, and help review one another's work. If you're competent, then you'll learn and improve for next time. If you're not competent, well, it's hard to cover up forever.
