Omicron vaccine is coming but may not matter–everybody’s going to be infected
- rsynnott 5y agoI mean, I'm not sure that the premise is correct. Even if everyone's infected by March, re-infection will be a concern. It could be quite useful if omicron hangs around for a while (or if whatever replaces omicron is also susceptible). "We don't know if this will be useful yet" would probably be better framing.

My suggestion would be if you have any underlying condition wear mask and keep distance plus take Vitamin D. Speaking of vaccination it is personal choice and responsibility.
- rsynnott 5y agoWell, hopefully. We really don't know that for Omicron yet, not for sure. But, well, March is a few months away. By the time this is available in quantity (if it ever becomes so; it'll likely never be made in large quantities if Omicron gets replaced quickly by something which it isn't effective on), immunity from the current wave may well be waning.
- newbamboo 5y agoI’m not planning on being infected. I hear this same fatalism about herpes and divorce. Why encourage bad behavior?
- rurban 5y agoBecause it's not bad. It's saving you from getting a dangerous variant, like Delta. And you cannot really plan to not get infected, everybody will.
- vidoc 5y ago> And you cannot really plan to not get infected, everybody will. They said exactly the same thing about Delta over the last summer, until reality proved the prediction WRONG as today Delta is almost exstinct.
- mrkramer 5y ago>Why encourage bad behavior? I agree with you that bad behavior should not be encouraged but then again why are alcohol, cigarettes and sugar heavy food and beverages legal?
