Does that mean that even if you click "Accept" on the cookie consent pop-ups, the website could still be fined? We could see a sudden rush of companies updating their websites to no longer set cookies for US-based services, and hopefully they'll get rid of the unnecessary pop-ups while they're at it.
- robin_reala 5y agoNo, assuming the site owner has passed the minimum “informed consent” basis then they can do what they like.
- dane-pgp 5y agoBut can a visitor really consent to mass warrantless surveillance by a foreign power? That's like "By continuing to browse this website, you agree to be targeted for assassination by drone". I guess we'll have to see how companies end up responding to this development, and what other cases are brought.
