Being able to write a file directly in the shell with heredocs is so cool, but I know I'll never use it because it's far quicker to just open vim and type with all the commands and verbs and motions that I'm used to.
- dtgriscom 5y agoAh, but that only writes the file once. Heredocs can write a new file, in a different position and with different variable replacements, as many times as you like. Very powerful.
- yakshaving_jgt 5y agoI’m not sure I follow. It’s pretty straightforward to write the contents of a vim buffer to a file.
