I really loved this essay, it goes in and out of different nooks of writing. The comparison of puppies to young college readers is great. And, it was fun to read her reading material ("Brooksmith"). Right before that I notice her using signal as an adjective ("signal pleasure") and I never saw it used as an adjective before. In the first two paragraphs she must have read the usage ("rendered signal service...") and then incorporated it into her essay. It's like treasure hunting.
