Disclaimer. I don't like DHH, I find him insufferable, obnoxious, he has the "I am right, you are wrong" attitude that one would think it should finish with middle school. It looks like he is always ready not to teach, but to indoctrinate others, who are of course not just wrong, but also "misogynist", "modern-day slave holders", "exploiters". And what is the point of this dreadful little essay if not to provoke some kind of outrage. And in fact, he writes, "So that's what we do at Basecamp. With programmers, we ask the finalists to complete a substantial take-home assignment that's a realistic sliver of the work they'd do if hired. The assignment can be completed in 3-5 hours, but some applicants end up spending a whole day. Cue the outrage!" Why cue the outrage? He is the CEO, he can set up the interview process the way he likes. Why a person like him, successful, wealthy, with a family, has to be so insecure, so sad, that he wants to pick a (virtual) fight with the world at least once a month?
