Please don't take this the wrong way but I think you might need to get out of the political media trap. I say this because of the way you are parroting left wing media talking points. I have been there and I have no doubt you are well educated on the all the twists and turns regarding the political landscape and may even be taking the righteous side of the argument.
The question is, what value does having that knowledge provide you? Personally I came to the realization that no matter how much I "Know" about the "Truth", it is a waste of time and effort on my part. If I had spent half the time I did following US politics and the slanted media reports from both sides on learning about the stock market and chart analysis, I would in a much better place. Political news and it's infectious outrage is an addictive and toxic product designed to suck otherwise intelligent and good people into consuming their product.
As far as the article subject I was referring to, the military has a very good track record for breaking down then remolding young ideologs into good soldiers that follow orders. Any "leftist" media reports from authors that probably will not and have not served claiming there is a threat to democracy from insidious cabals of right wing extremists are ridiculous at best and most likely political propaganda to feed the beast.
