I guess the engagement metrics are still up for stories like these, otherwise I can't imagine any reason other than state sponsored propaganda that can explain why news outlets are still whipping this dead horse.
IMO Domestic extremism will remain a likely threat but will be a drop in the bucket compared to the extreme poverty and natural disasters on deck for the coming years.
It won't be right or left ideologies that drive domestic terror but a sense of hopelessness and irrelevance of the previous well off youth that soon will find themselves destitute.
So many young people have already given up and made the decision to not return to work, the Fed is signaling interest rate rises and food production has been on the decline for several years. I believe there are only two outcomes that can result from such a situation... Either a global depression or war...or both.
When millions of young people decide not to work for whatever reason, be it justified or not, historically their value in society is diminished and has resulted in many being pressed into war through malnourishment or mandate.
- sofixa 5y agoDead horse? It's only been a year since an attempted coup d'état that went without consequences for the perpetrators, who are gearing up for more by stacking the deck at various government levels. The incoming problems from pandemic-related economic trouble, climate change, plus the already existing troubles ( spiraling costs of living), will certainly add fuel to the fire, but it's already there.
- sigmaprimus 5y agoPlease don't take this the wrong way but I think you might need to get out of the political media trap. I say this because of the way you are parroting left wing media talking points. I have been there and I have no doubt you are well educated on the all the twists and turns regarding the political landscape and may even be taking the righteous side of the argument. The question is, what value does having that knowledge provide you? Personally I came to the realization that no matter how much I "Know" about the "Truth", it is a waste of time and effort on my part. If I had spent half the time I did following US politics and the slanted media reports from both sides on learning about the stock market and chart analysis, I would in a much better place. Political news and it's infectious outrage is an addictive and toxic product designed to suck otherwise intelligent and good people into consuming their product. As far as the article subject I was referring to, the military has a very good track record for breaking down then remolding young ideologs into good soldiers that follow orders. Any "leftist" media reports from authors that probably will not and have not served claiming there is a threat to democracy from insidious cabals of right wing extremists are ridiculous at best and most likely political propaganda to feed the beast.
