> He was promised entry by the government
Clarification: It was Tennis Australia who told him he could play, not the Australian government.
- pomdapi 5y agoHis medical file was reviewed by the governement's own Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) for COVID-19, and a state of Victoria medical review board set up to review such cases. He took two test before taking off from Belgrade, and then in Dubai. Then, based on that, the Australian embassy delivered a visa for his entry on Australian territory. That visa was then rescinded by a deputy assistant directly under the Minister of Foreign affairs after his plane from Dubai took off. So "the government" all the way, no Tennis Australia in sight.
- sofixa 5y agoAn advisory body and a state authority are not "the government" of a federal country like Australia.
- pomdapi 5y agoWait, you are saying that the ATAGI for COVID-19, which was set up directly under the Minister of Health as part of the Federal Department of Health to advise and adjucate on everything immunity and vaccination related, who has produced all the current stringent Australian Covid rules, is somehow NOT part of the federal government ? They have litterally made the rules, and are sometimes delegated to adjudicate on specific cases. Checking that would have taken you exactly 5 seconds. It's litterally on their web page header, but in their statutes as well.
- infamia 5y agoHe was granted a visa to enter Australia, and then they suddenly canceled his visa. This stinks of politics. https://abcnews.go.com/International/djokovic-courts-controversy-tennis-star-granted-medical-exemption/story?id=82086762 https://abcnews.go.com/International/djokovic-courts-controv...
