Yeah, in Poland you don't wear shoes in the house, you put them on just before leaving the house. Often there's a separate room for shoes and jackets. There are slippers for walking around in the house if you want them (and every family has "guest slippers" for when somebody comes to visit). Not taking off your shoes when you come to someone is very rude.
