  Most are tax havens that turn a blind eye to money laundering and other financial crimes.

  Other than what's been mentioned, the "digital nomads" have a pretty long history of traveling to low-cost tropical areas, to get most bang for the buck as far living cost goes. And it makes sense. But these projects, however, I'm not sure. Maybe they really just want some secluded cult-like utopia of likeminded people. This is gonna be much more expensive than simply camping out in Thailand.
