Average undesired weight gain by adults in the US since the start of pandemic
- crmd 5y agoAverage reported undesired weight gain. I’m not registering and logging in to learn about the data source (evil), but it sounds like it could have come from a Facebook quiz.
- coolgeek 5y ago> As of February 2021, millennials in the United States reported an average undesired weight gain of 41 pounds since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This statistic illustrates the average undesired weight gain reported by adults in the United States since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic as of February 2021 by demographic. $59/month for access to high quality data such as this is a no-brainer!

- skavi 5y agoThese numbers seem absurd. Am I missing something?
- octokatt 5y agoNope, these numbers seem absurd, most likely due to heavy sampling bias.
- runamok 5y agoSo from December 2020 to February 2021 about 40lbs where each pound is 3500 calories? 140000 calories over about 14 months? So 10000 extra calories per month is ~330 per day. That seems like a lot over a long time period.
- netizen-936824 5y agoI actually have watched multiple colleagues of mine gain weight over this period. I was pretty surprised when I saw them back I'm the office. Just my anecdata
- captainbland 5y agoThat graph is provoking but not that insightful without a comparison to how the numbers look outside the pandemic. Plus the 'undesired' weight gain part of the question likely biases this to people only providing an answer if they've gained quite a lot of weight, small amounts of weight gain may have gone unnoticed by many, i.e. a sampling bias - emphasising the need for a fair comparison.
