Ironically, using the phrase "virtue signaling" has itself become a form of virtue signaling to the crowd reading Reason and others around here who see it as a negative. This is like the phrase "politically correct", which started as a neutral term for labeling language that was (or wasn't) up to date with our aspirational norms. I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the phrase except with contempt.
