AWS Is Out to Kill Mainframes
- barbarbar 5y agoLong time ago somebody made a very good comparison of aws services and mainframe services here on hn. Unfortunately I can't find that comment.
- johnklos 5y agoIt's stupid, and no reasonable business would ever consider moving from real mainframe hardware to Java running on Amazon. On the other hand, businesses have been divesting themselves of people who know what they're doing and instead migrate their developers' whole environments to AWS, often ending up over time paying much more to Amazon per month than the salary they've saved, because it seems easier for the developers and cheaper at the start. So Amazon capitalizes on businesses' stupidity, regardless of the lack of security or reliability. It'll be interesting to see which businesses are stupid enough to use this.

- cafard 5y agoGee, 25-30 years ago, Steward Alsop Jr. was writing every month that the last mainframe would be turned off by 2000.
