Taking your foot off the accelerator should not cause braking. There is a brake pedal for braking. I tried driving a Tesla, and this departure from the way normal cars work really turned me off.
- marginalia_nu 5y agoIn a combustion engine, removing your foot from the pedal causes engine braking, which is a function of your gear, but it's very possible to nearly stop a speeding car with engine braking alone, with a series of downshifts. Pressing the clutch removes this effect and lets you roll with minimal braking. Electric cars don't have that, so they simulate it. Automatic cars do that too, to an extent.

- wutbrodo 5y agoIt's beyond silly to declare that there's One True Way to implement braking. The article's point is far more relevant: if the system works one way, changing it silently is extremely dangerous.
