It’s hilariously wrong to say that paying for things with bitcoin is no better now than in the past.
The country of El Salvador adopted it as a currency and every merchant has the option of easily taking bitcoin via lightning network there— and everywhere else as well. Adoption around the world is growing rapidly. It hasn’t yet broken into mainstream awareness yet, but the graph is exponential.
Lightning is one of those technologies that when you use it you feel like “wow it really is the future!”

Yes, a lot of the Ethereum nodes are hosted with hosting companies (~69% [1]). Yes, a lot of those are hosted with AWS (~44% [2]), but even so, AWS disappearing would not have a huge impact on Ethereum itself. - [1] - https://www.ethernodes.org/network-types https://www.ethernodes.org/network-types (just nodes that opt-in, real number differ) - [2] - https://www.ethernodes.org/networkType/Hosting https://www.ethernodes.org/networkType/Hosting (just nodes that opt-in, real number differ)
- swalsh 5y agoEven wose, many blockchain nodes are running on AWS. Fortunately we know the problem exists.. and there are solutions people are working on to resolve it (for example https://akash.network/ https://akash.network/) The good part is that this infrastructure is a commodity and you can move relatively effortlessly.
