On a similar note, working at a TV station I've noticed that if you look carefully, about a third to half of a person's channel lineup is still in SD. Not only is there a wealth of 1080 content, but it's also difficult to even buy equipment that only produces standard definition. Still, it's cheaper to downconvert high resolution content than it is to upgrade the amount of bandwidth one has available. To this day internet streaming is considered inadequate for a network and transmission is being done over satellites and antennas which are pretty costly to upgrade.
