Perhaps some concrete details or examples of the inappropriate practices would be more informative for the purpose.
What's often lacking is that not everyone knows how to identify occurence of harassment or discrimination. There are bold cases, but too often it's made subtle, yet systematic to appear almost 'acceptable'. This is especially hard in workplace, as it may be mistaken for 'culture'.
So, identifying such practices is what needs some self-discovery, perhaps explanation. Yet more to it is that harassment and discrimination are heavily defined in legal terms (in US at least), with protected classes etc. This makes it even harder to firmly claim it, even though experientially it may have taken place.
I believe that if job environment makes one feel uncomfortable for whatever reason, it makes sense to try to identify the situations for one-self, and if it persists, especially involving rank-mismatch, the healthiest way is just to change the job at the earliest occasion. Companies that allow such environments just have the ingredients for that. Fighting it is still an option, just it will be a scarring battle no matter the outcome.
