requires an above-average level of competence” it might just have a longer learning curve. projects that are maintainable such as “huge codebase across decades, with dozens or hundreds of programmers coming and going” aren’t a special kind of program. these are just the successful ones
the distinction is between “hobby/academia” and “industry”
