The Hubble telescope wasn't unique. It was simply the first one that was pointed away from earth. For the JWST, is there even room for a 2nd telescope at L2?

- ajuc 5y agoThere's room for a lot of them, it will be in orbit around L2, not exactly in L2.

- baq 5y agoSpace is huge.
- varajelle 5y agoBut L2 is just one point
- CamperBob2 5y agoThat's an abstraction. In reality, what we call "L2" is an orbit around the L2 point. No shortage of room.
- loonster 5y agoI was thinking since the point is so unstable, the orbit must be extremely small... Boy was I wrong. The orbit is about the same size as the moon makes around the earth. [0] Its HUGE. We would run out of material to make satellites before we ever ran out of room. [0] https://jwst.nasa.gov/content/about/orbit.html https://jwst.nasa.gov/content/about/orbit.html
