  Depending on which features you need, Gitlab can be a lightweight replacement. It has good Kanban boards, but does not have custom fields, so everything is done with tags. Also lacks reporting. In places where I work, the switch to Gitlab was intentional to keep things simple. JIRA had become a monster.

  Jira is a monster that does way too much but that's probably why everyone uses it - execs hear of all the features it has without thinking about how the end users feel about it. The Jira replacement will depend a lot on the reasons you use Jira and what features you need.
