Let's Ban Cars (Seriously)
- millzlane 5y agoNo thank you, I'd rather ban alcohol first.
- version_five 5y agoWhy do we need to ban things? (Also they tried that, it made a lot of gangsters really rich, led to some bloodshed and methanol poisoning, and otherwise didn't accomplish much)
- xvector 5y agoAlcohol kills fewer innocent people than cars.
- thesuperbigfrog 5y ago>> Alcohol kills fewer innocent people than cars. Alcohol + cars kills lots of innocent people.
- 7174n6 5y agoOr how about fast food and soda? Consumption of those items kill enough every year. Then we can safely move to eliminate, smoking, ladders, and rock climbing.
- xvector 5y agoCars tear communities apart. None of those other activities are as destructive to our quality of life compared to cars. Did you watch the video?
- LinuxBender 5y agoThis might work in some big cities but I think you would want to get the people to vote on this city-by-city. A car ban would be struck down in seconds in most places. Each time a city implements this then do cost/benefit analysis to verify that most positive things stated in the video came true. Not all cities and their industries are equal. UK and US culture vary wildly so you might get a bit more push-back in the US. Will the public transit be self driving? This would have to be done differently in farmland and other sparsely populated areas. People can't transport their livestock on a bus, yet. Emailing Elon... I am not against taking a horse into town if everyone else agrees to do it and they put back all the hitching posts. I saw some super bright multi-color LED's I could put on a horse to avoid big trucks from hitting us. Some people with arthritis will need help with their saddle. Speaking of big trucks, will they all be self driving? Can the self driving trucks handle dirt roads yet or do they need a driver to assist? Do they deal with snow and ice yet? One third of the year there are no visible lines on the road.
