As someone points out in the comments section of article, green has been the color of SMS since the first iPhone (which didn't have iMessage) [1]. It is still possible that they made the green "harsher" or something.
I think all those Tweets about "green bubbles" can be seen as a reminder of how society works: status signalling explains a lot.
We should make some kind of an NFT t-short which certifies each person's net worth. People can simply wear a t-shirt displaying their net worth in a large, hyperlegible font and get done with it. /s

- matt-attack 5y agoThe issue has nothing to do with the color. And the author clearly owns an Android because he’s completely ignoring the reason that green bubbles are annoying. Just to name a few: 1. My two sentence message to my friend shouldn’t have to go through the phone company, be trivially scraped by law enforcement, show up as a line item on my cell phone bill for god sake 2. No typing indicator 3. No reply icons (heart, exclamation mark, question, etc) 4. No support for sending large files 5. Contact info and photo gets pushed automatically if you wish 6. Other things I’m probably not remembering. Again we hate green not because Apple made it look ugly and green, but for very legitimate reasons of functionality that is lacking.
- TheGoddessInari 5y agoAll of the limitations you mentioned sound Apple-imposed, as Android supports all of those features over sms / mms / rcs except replies/threads, and none of that is even slightly new.
- shever73 5y agoThis! I've had an iPhone since 2010, and SMS messages were always in green. I haven't consciously noticed the green bubble getting harsher over time, but that doesn't mean it hasn't. I rarely use SMS or iMessage now anyway - most of my messaging is done through WhatsApp or Telegram.
