This site is also another attack on Google Voice and similar numbers. The sign up mysteriously failed when I provided my Google Voice with no explanation. Suddenly worked when I provided my T-Mobile number. I expect more unblockable spam soon.
- mjevans 5y agoI loath sites that 'block voip' category services; as if Google Voice hasn't been proven MORE SECURE than T-mobile already.
- kube-system 5y agoWebsites aren’t blocking VOIP numbers for security reasons, they’re usually blocking them for spam/trust/abuse reasons. It is easy for someone on the other side of the planet to get a US VOIP number. It’s much harder for them to get a T-Mobile number.
- mjevans 5y agoI strongly believe what they really want (even if they don't know they want this) is a National ID system, that includes at least weak crypto signatures as a proof someone is holding a piece of ID. Though what I'd rather have is a portal run by the government to run ID verification requests through (so they're logged) that people can then authenticate to that site and sign off on approvals for.
