The title is a whole lot of "no shit." Women aren't taken seriously. My wife's,(very short lived) PCP theorized that her intestinal problems were possibly due to her period syncing with our daughter. The concept of periods getting in sync is proven to be false and our daughter was two. When she pointed out the second thing his response was an exclamation that "it is a thing though!" She had a previous diagnosis (on record, with him) of diverticulosis and the thing he thought might be her period syncing was a diverticulitis flareup. This is not an uncommon problem she faces and it's not unique to her. There are lots of women to have to do their own triage because we think they're going through PMS or postpartum depression or their just hysterical (hysteria chairs are a wild thing that happened in medical history).
I don't have time to get into the study but anecdotally, I can assure you that we do women a horrible disservice in the medical field. It's one of the reasons my wife tries hard to work only with women. Most of them believe her.
