Blockchains are just starting. There are major innovations under development right now that will massively reduce the energy consumption, and increase the scalability, of blockchains, like zk-Rollups.
- defaultprimate 5y agoThis is basically a verbatim quote from 2016/2017 when Microsoft, IBM and other tech giants were starting blockchain research divisions, all of which were dissolved by last year lol
- Kye 5y ago13 years is not just starting.
- SparkyMcUnicorn 5y agoThe first microprocessors started in the 70s. The internet started in the 80s.
- Kbelicius 5y agoWorld wide web which, like cryptocurrencies, runs on the internet in its first 13 years had on it Amazon, Google, Facebook... 13 years seems plenty.
- samb1729 5y agoThere were barriers to contributing to those efforts which simply don’t exist with this Web3 thing, so this vague implication falls flat if thought about. Orders of magnitude more individuals have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the advancement of the cryptocurrency space when compared to the early internet, without much (or any) need to wait for hardware innovations or military funding. What is a good reason that cryptocurrencies have seen practically zero real-world adoption in the same approximate timespan that Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, et al managed to integrate deeply into our societies? And of course by adoption I don’t mean HODLing, I mean cryptocurrencies being used as the currencies they are claimed to be.
- ostenning 5y agoCommon, just another 5 years of pump and dumps before Cardano is no longer vaporware and we can all justify its peak market cap being the same as BP at ~95 billion US dollars.
- tim333 5y agoTop coins apart from Bitcoin and Tether are ETH, BNB and Solana and of those only ETH is proof of work and is trying to stop that soon.
- cuteboy19 5y agoEven if what you are saying is true, that will not solve anything for Bitcoin, which is the majority consumer of electricity for the crypto world
- fsociety 5y agoBitcoin is like the steam engine. It will go away for things which are more efficient.
- pibechorro 5y agoIt wont go away, it will become a protocol only incharge of high value security. All the daily micro transactions will take place in a second layer or in another crypto which can swap back and forth seamlessly.
- fomine3 5y agoI wish so.
