Hollowed-Out, 4k-Year-Old Tree Trunk Coffin Discovered (2021)
- mod 5y agoI wonder what kind of stone the axe-head is made of. The handle is beautiful.
- jccooper 5y agoSeems that it's probably a fossil coral, the outer layer etched off by bog acids.
- Aardwolf 5y agoThe axe looks wonderful indeed! How did such stone axes work though, is stone not too brittle? I assume it was sharper when used too, right?
- Mikeb85 5y agoEver seen an axe for splitting wood? Doesn't need to be that sharp... Just needs to be wedge shaped with decent heft behind it and a long handle. This particular axe could be a tool, or a weapon used more like a war hammer (those were a thing). Metal war axes typically had shorter handles, less weight but a sharper edge.
- DoreenMichele 5y ago“The man buried at Tetney lived in a very different world to ours,...but like ours, it was a changing environment, rising sea levels and coastal flooding ultimately covered his grave and burial mound in a deep layer of silt that aided its preservation.”
- turkeytail 5y agoThe vast possibilities of nature never cease to amaze me.
- divbzero 5y agoHad I been one of those construction workers I’m not entirely sure I would have recognized the coffin for what it is.
