Dell XPS 13 Plus hands-on: is that a touch bar?
- rbanffy 5y agoI had an HP with similar touch controls (but with function keys) and I was always hitting the volume bar by accident. This has all the problems of the first-gen Apple Touchbar and none of the benefits (being, essentially, an "iPad Nano" under the screen) of the original. It's baffling that something like this can reach the market.
- bellyfullofbac 5y agoIt follows the new trend of making the top row of keys multimedia keys, but they're F1-F12 if you hold down the Fn key. On this laptop I can't even see the F1-F12 label near those keys (from the video, also from The Verge writer[1]), so, what's next, will they have their own version of "How to use Excel" that says "If you want to edit a cell's contents, press Fn-Mute"? Hooray for the stupidification of the computer. Oh, I spoke to soon, at 1:56 [2] the backlight does change from backlighting the icons to backlighting Fx "keys" in between them. But my complaint remains, now a user and tech support has another hurdle of "I don't see the F2 key" because they both don't realise they have to press the Fn key... - rbanffy 5y agoSeriously... It must be a lot of fun to be Apple, make a mistake, and see your competition copying it after you discontinued the originals.
