The problem I see with the approach of existing devs taking the challenge is that they do not have the same level of nervousness or pressure. Presumably if they fail they still get to keep their job, right? IMO, being under pressure in an interview stunts a person's cognitive ability somewhat, between the pressure, the unfamiliar environment, lack of working relationships with the team, etc. I think that would need to be factored in somehow.
