- lelandfe 5y agoIf Poly Haven is reading this: you nearly have an amazing FCP on the models browser but the external normalize.css file is killing you.[0] Self-hosting would drastically improve your 75p paint time. I'd also encourage you load your fonts late via JS. Your main JS package competes right now with WOFF files from Google Fonts for priority and there's no need for that. - hansel_der 5y ago> I'd also encourage you load your fonts late via JS can't tell if joke, so: there are already enough sites that display content for a split second and then some script runs (or fails?) and there is either nothing on screen or an error message. this is ridiculous - please stop!
- lelandfe 5y agoLoading experience for this would be that a fallback font loads first and is later replaced. If something errors, it’s not replaced. What you’re describing has been thankfully avoidable for many years.
- hansel_der 5y agothis failure mode has been avoidable like forever and i have only seen it become more widespred in the last decade. be sure i blame ad-tech and analytics
- austinpena 5y agoWhy not just font-display:swap? Seems like the simpler solution.
- lelandfe 5y agooptional would be more along the lines of what we want, but loading with JS let’s us load even later. They’re using swap today.
- simonbarker87 5y agoAgreed, incredibly fast
- ummonk 5y agoAgreed it's impressively fast, but a lot of the speed is just due to heavily compressing the thumbnails.
