I rediscovered RSS about six months ago when I switched back to Linux from MacOS and realized Akregator was still part of KDE. Most actual long form content - blogs, news, company websites, podcasts all still have RSS feeds, and once you have 10-20 good ones loaded into Akregator, it's actually a pretty good experience. Most of the big socials dropped RSS feeds a while back for the same reason their APIs became less useful: they monetized with ads being mixed in with content. Allowing users to view their stream outside the UI literally cuts into the ad revenue.
