I started running DNS servers 25 years ago so it doesn't take much mental effort for me. It is easy for me to do, and I have full control over it. I can do it in my sleep. The biggest effort for me was about 24 years ago, when BIND 8 replaced BIND 4. Probably the last thing I had to learn was putting AAAA records in (easy enough) and putting SPF records (yes, I run my own personal postfix as well).
