I've taken the self hosting journey to learn tons about docker, and kubernetes. (Disclaimer: Kubernetes is overkill for self hosting). Not because it was the easiest, but because it was a great way to learn about a technology that has benefited me in my job. Nowadays, for me at least, it IS really easy to self-host anything. Get the docker image, add a deployment to my k8s cluster. Ship it. Getting to this point was less simple.
