Check out the book "Great Demo" if you haven't already. Much of it seems obvious if it's how you already demo, but if you feel like you're struggling it's worth skimming at least.
The most important things are preparation and understanding what your audience wants and expects.
The worst demos I've seen usually fall into one of two categories:
- the "harbor tour", stepping through every link in every menu to show off every feature.
- presenter ignoring the audience, e.g, early on someone says "I've already seen X, I'm interested in Y" but presenter dives deeply into X anyway
