GM unveils sharp-looking Equinox EV starting at game-changing $30k price
- kunai 5y agoGod bless GM for still using tactile buttons and knobs in the (very sharp-looking) interior. The proliferation of touch controls for something as simple as turning on the hazard lights or lowering the sunroof is a travesty.
- wcoenen 5y agoSome numbers to provide context about where GM is in the EV game: in 2021, GM delivered 24,828 EVs (Chevy Bolt) out of 2,218,228 cars in total in the USA, or just over 1% of their USA deliveries.[1] They still have a ways to go. - toomuchtodo 5y agoThey only delivered 26 EVs in 2021Q4. 25 Chevy Bolts and 1 Hummer EV pickup truck.
- bsder 5y ago> Sales of the Bolt EV have been paused since September 2021 as the company focuses on repairing recalled vehicles. At least include the reason if you're going to point that out.

- pxmpxm 5y agoThat's a bizarre metric to suggest - how is relative ev production informative of anything in this context?
- wcoenen 5y agoIn the article, Electrek wrote: > If the EV tax credit reform ends up passing, it would make the vehicle cheaper than its gasoline-powered version before gas savings. That’s just game over. That's a suggestion that people will no longer be interested in buying comparable gasoline-powered cars when this Equinox EV were to become available. However, as I showed with my comment above, most of GM's assets must still be focused on building non-EVs, as that's currently 99% of their sales. So if GM is really going to be selling what they announce here, they are in for one hell of an Osborne effect and a huge write-off of their assets. (Not that they have much choice, I guess the competition will eat their lunch otherwise.)
- mikestew 5y agoLate 2023? And GM being GM, it'll be mid-2024, and they won't make enough of them. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to buy one. But I'll bet a paycheck that I don't. Because some of us are still on our original first-ten Leafs, and boy howdy, is that car getting long in the tooth after 11 years. And I seriously doubt that we wait long enough for GM to produce one of these for our garage. No biggie, that Hyundai Ioniq is looking good. Mustang is a strong possibility. Maybe VW isn't lying about that Buzz minivan. Point is, plenty of options that will go 300 miles and carry two dogs. GM best get their asses in gear.
- kgin 5y ago2023 seems like it’s about the right time to start launching mass market EVs. For as much hype as they have, EVs are still something purchased by early adopters.
- seattle_spring 5y ago"starting at game-changing $30k price"... ... or, more realistically, $65k after "dealer market adjustment."
