In my city Cluj Napoca (Romania), I would welcome higher petrol prices, which might lead to less trafic and I'm sure the more needy could be helped with some form of subsidy from said taxes... A SUV tax would probably be more efficient... btw I don't know how many of you know this but on Fridays public transport is free in Romanian cities...
